Well here's my contribution to the Sidewayz 2011 charity event. I had these perfectly good chrome stool bases sitting around, so I decided to get out the trusty angle grinder and chop a perfectly good Ride snowboard into four pieces to make these functional artworks...One stool auctioned for $250 and the other for $150, with proceeds going towards the Christchurch and Japan earthquake/tsunami benefits. Special thanks to John @ Westsyde Connection, Balmoral Boards, The National Grid and all the punters who attended this great cause...especially the lucky winners of my stoolz, muchly appreciated!

I am part of the Sidewayz charity art auction/exhibition opening this Saturday night, with a huge lineup of talent leaving their marks on skate decks and snowboards with all proceeds going to the Christchurch and Japan Earthquake benefits. I was stoked to be given a snowboard...you'll have to wait to opening night to see what I made of it, all I'm gonna say I was a tad nervous chopping into the board with the old angle grinder! If you can't make it along to the show I'm sure there will be plenty of pics circulating post event and also there will be an online auction too. I will post deets when they come to hand ok.

The World Is Your Monster.....

Last Saturday I was up in Newcastle and in between the showers I painted the stencil piece below titled "The World Is Your Monster" It Stands at nearly 3m tall and is by far my biggest stencil to date. So stoked I finally managed to get this up...this was the plan for the TINA 2o1o festival but due to some issues I was only able to do a paste up of the piece. The stencil is located in Keightley St (off Hunter St Mall) for those who wish to check it. A big thanks to Simone from SAW (Street Art Walking) for the opportunity! So here is my piece "19XX" that featured in the FanBoy vs. ArtBoy show recently. It is inspired by the classic WW2 "shoot 'em up" series 19XX released by Capcom – which included the games 1942 (1984), 1943-The Battle Of Midway (1987),1943 Kai-Midway Kaisen (1988), 1941-Counter Attack (1990), 19XX-The War Against Destiny (1995) and 1944-The Loop Master (2000).

I am told the opening night was awesome with many punters commenting on how diverse all the artist representations were of their video game inspired art. Some other great news to also arise from the show is this week the ABC2 program Good Game dropped into ArtBoy Gallery to film the show! So there will be an upcoming feature on the popular gaming show...more deets soon. For now you can see more snaps of my sculpture here.

Sean Irving from Metro Gallery in Melbourne recently forwarded me details on the upcoming show from Swoon, as follows, and if you are around this part of the world I recommend you get on down and take a peek!.....

This will be her first visit to Australia and she's taking the opportunity to create a site specific installation within the gallery.

We're incredibly excited to be holding this event, Swoon is highly regarded within the international street art community and her works can be found on walls all over the world. She has also had work acquired by major cultural institutions including MOMA and the Tate Modern, and she's widely recognised as a master of contemporary printmaking.

Swoon is a Brooklyn-based artist whose life-sized woodblock and cut-paper portraits hang on walls in various states of decay in cities around the world. She has designed and built several large-scale installations, most notably the Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea at Deitch Projects in 2008. Her pieces have been collected by of The Museum of Modern Art, The Brooklyn Museum of Art , and the Tate Modern. Major pieces have appeared at PS1, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and Black Rat Press. Swoon has been traveling for the past several years creating exhibitions and workshops in the United States and abroad.

Swoon is also an instigator and a collaborator. She founded the Toyshop collective and the Miss Rockaway Armada, and is a member of Just Seeds and the Transformazium. Since 2006 she has organized four large-scale raft projects and floated down the Mississippi and Hudson rivers with them. Most recently, she and her collaborators designed a flotilla of sea-going rafts that invaded the 2009 Venice Biennale.

Her artistic process is predicated on the belief that art is an immersive, provocative, and transformative experience for its participants. Although Swoon’s aesthetics can be seen as an outgrowth of street art, her engagement with ethical living and making art share a close kinship with the idealism of off-grid, barter-based cultures and economies based on sharing. She uses scavenged and local materials and embraces print media as a potent means of action for social change.

Everfresh was invited by the National Gallery of Victoria to be part of the new space soon to open at Fed Square called the NGVSTUDIO. The space will be something new for the NGV and we are looking forward to what’s going to be happening there when it opens up this year.

We also have melbourne girl MISO coming along to help out which will be the first time we have worked with her on a wall.

In the last post there was talk about Sydney representation, well I can now say it is official...I am now represented by Traffic Jam Galleries in Neutral Bay! I have been holding off for many months on this news, but with the launch of the all new NiceProduce v2 website, I can proudly say I have been invited to join the ranks! My work will feature along with an amazing bunch of talented folk from Australia and abroad. Some of the artists include Meggs, TwoOne, Jagi, Reka and Ben Brown to name a few. I remember drooling over Brown's gnarly black lined illustrations, as a young grommet, sprawling band posters, album covers and througout many skate/music publications. He was also the frontman for The Hellmenn, a surf/skate/garage punk band from Sydney's Northern Beaches in the 1980's/90's...so i'm very chuffed.

Been burning the candle at both ends...So much to do...painting,designing flyers,more painting, drawing, getting stuff framed, building sculptures, finishing some vector illustrations, building plinths, some screen printing, more painting, more sculpture work and so on and so on...shit this solo stuff is hard work!

The full colour flyers are now at the printers, so should have them back in a few days time (see here for a peek) and I got hold of 10 cases of Coopers pale ale for the opening...So if you think the art stinks the quality beer should more than make up for it on the night!

Things are getting pretty crazy around here, the weeks are slipping by so fast and there is still a heap to do for my solo...with hardly any time to scratch my own arse I did however find time to post this very immature but way phallicly funny post...I spose this kid just got bored of penis doodles (no excuse for the pun) in toilet cubicles or trashing his oldies house when they were away and just wanted to go one better? Apparently his creation was visible from outer space! Impressive. read more here.

Been getting the old production line happening with my "Minimalistiki" hand screen printed ceramic sculptures. I will admit the whole process of creating these things is a little painstaking and tedious because of all the stages involved, but the end result is well worth it. Several of these suckers will feature in my solo.

Progress for my solo is moving along with the completion of a couple of key pieces. As mentioned before I have revisited painting with acrylics/watercolour, some pieces will be layered/collaged, I will be doing some screenprints and also some vector based giclee prints. For these I am using illustrator...been a while! Anyway I am planning to deliver a balanced range of my 2d work and sculptures, while utilising many learnt (not mastered!) techniques and mediums from over the years. So if you do come along, one thing will be certain, there will be plenty of variety and diversity!

*The date for my solo has moved back to Friday October 16, 2009. More details to follow.

Busy working on new stuff for my solo...decided to re-visit arylics and gouche and suprised myself coz' it's been such a long time since I painted detail like this. My new work is a little removed from previous work but it still will have a definite flow as some older pieces will be included in the exhibition. The art above will be eventually collaged onto a piece that will be a big "mash up" of many different mediums and elements to tell a story, if you wish to read into it that much. I'll try to offer some more sneak peeks as the work progresses, keep ya posted ok!

Spent a drizzly old day in and around Surry Hills/Paddington today, dropped by the Skull_Duggery show @ blank_space coz' I was unable to make the opening on Thursday. I was told it was jam packed and a great night, the art looks amazing. Above is a couple of pics of my pieces in the show and below some little street treasures found throughout the day. The last pic my wife thought was hilarious coz' she said it looks just like me..."a big round head and hairy"!

I peruse Juxtapoz.com on quite a regular basis and as you would expect the standard of work, no matter the genre is absolutely amazing...this piece above "Dr Grood" by Veronica Hebardof, found at above mentioned site, is of no exception. Got me another plug, much the same as the recent one at Sweet~Station and in terms of quality it's right up there too, but what makes this blog soooo special is that the creative content is 100% from Australia.....or as Daniel Hadiwibawa, the man behind it, would say "total freshness from Aus". This fella is my new fave graff/street artist (if I ever had an old one?), label him what you will, his work spans various mediums and infiltrates lanes, streets and even gallery spaces all over the globe. His art is like a vivid, explosive flashback to my childhood Saturday mornings spent watching the "box" and to use colloquially specific jargon...his stuff is "DOPE". It's all official...my long overdue debut solo show has been locked in @ China Heights. Ok it's not until October 9, but we all know how fast the months fly by, so the plan is to pace myself. I have already started working towards it and although the exhibition will feature some old works I will be showcasing a fresh body of paintings and sculptures.

Found a nice antique frame at a garage sale for a coupla bucks and thought it lent itself to our Micheal Hsiung print —"Portrait of Merman and his illegitimate Child?", with it's old-world charm & all (I think Merman's dapper bow-tie & eyeglass are the attributors to that charm!). I cleaned up the frame and along with the print dropped it down to the old chap at the local framing shop. Below is the result, very happy indeed!

I have been asked to feature some of my sculpture work (through the bubble initiative) at the General Pants Co. headquarters in Sydney for Media Days next week, a showcase of their Summer 09/10 clothing range. Unfortunately it is an industry only gig and not open to the general public, but the opportunity to have my work showcased is fantastic nonetheless. A big cheers go's out to Aly from General Pants Co.!!!

I came across this gem on the Plan9 from blog, who originally sourced it via the Wooster Collective...You could imagine driving to work on an otherwise gloomy day in Austin, Texas and seeing this warning. It certainly would have put a smile on some faces or if you were the paranormally gullable type, you may have been putting your foot down and locking the doors!...it is also nice to know that although zombies were on the loose, some good samaritan has stopped their running and risked their own life to warn others, how selfless!

Was checking out Fecal Face tonight and came across this sad story about a San Fransico artist named Holli Hawthorne. She recently was involved in a motorcycle accident in India which has left her in a coma. Family and friends are trying to raise US$150,000 to get her back home. Holli was unfortunately uninsured. I know things are pretty tough at the moment and we have had enough troubles in our own backyard with the shocking bushfires etc. But I urge you to donate a few dollars towards her plight, to help bring a fellow artist home. Numero Uno.....

"Numero Uno" is a huge scaled No.1 sculpture modeled from the Rosewood font. Made of an oregon frame, a plywood skin and acrylic paints, it measures over 2.0 metres. (approx.5500 points!)

On Wednesday night I took it down the road to the Slam Factory for a photo shoot with a bunch of local skaters. I managed to get a couple of nice pics which I have entered into the Mooks Artspace January theme "numbers". Big up to all skaters who participated...you rip! and also a huge thanks goes out to Richard from Slam Factory.

My submission should be able to be viewed at mooksartspace.com soon. I will keep you posted, but for now checkout some video from the "Numero Uno Session" below....enjoy.
